Carrick Press Conference: Como vs Man Utd Team News

Michael Carrick will take questions from the media this evening to preview Manchester United's Champions League game against Como.

United beat Sabah 4-0 to open their Champions League campaign, but suffered a 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid last week, a match in which Leny Yoro was shown a red card in the second half. Yoro is suspended for the trip to Como, and there are doubts over the involvement of Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven and Luke Shaw, who all missed training at Carrington this morning.

Team News and Training Absences

Marcus Rashford, Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were all absent from Manchester United's training at Carrington on Tuesday morning. Carrick oversaw the final session before the Como match, but Mainoo, who was unavailable against Atletico Madrid and Leeds due to a minor injury, was not seen.

Shaw was missing from training again. The defender played the full game as United drew 1-1 with Tottenham a fortnight ago but picked up an issue and has been ruled out since. Martinez was substituted at half-time during the 1-1 draw with Leeds last weekend due to a knock, while Heaven was absent due to illness, which ruled him out of the Elland Road trip.

Defensive Concerns Ahead of Como

If Martinez and Heaven are not included in the squad, Carrick will be left with just two senior centre-backs, Maguire and De Ligt. De Ligt has only just returned to fitness from back surgery and has not played since November 30 last year.

Dorgu remains a longer-term absentee after pulling out of international duty, which means Dalot and Mazraoui could be the only fit senior full-backs in the squad against Como. Harry Amass and Jaydan Kamason, full-backs from the academy, trained with the main group on Tuesday, while youngster Dan Armer, a centre-back, also took part.

Press Conference Details

United have not confirmed their travelling squad, as the club will not announce which players are included for away Champions League games this season, but Carrick will give a team news update this evening. He will speak to the media in Como at 6.30pm UK time, alongside midfielder Santos.

United have made their worst start to a Premier League season for 40 years, so the pressure is rising on the 44-year-old. The press conference comes after the 1-1 draw against Leeds, and Carrick will be asked for his thoughts ahead of Como and to confirm the team news, with doubts surrounding a handful of key players.
