A shocking drunk driving incident in San Antonio, Texas, left a family terrified after a woman smashed her vehicle into their home in the early hours of the morning.
Ivalis Meza Gonzalez, 24, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) following the dramatic crash that was captured on home surveillance footage.
The Terrifying Moment of Impact
Security cameras recorded the horrifying moment Gonzalez's car careened off the road and plowed through the front yard before slamming into the residence. The impact was so powerful it shook the entire house, waking the sleeping family inside.
"We heard this enormous bang and thought someone had broken in," said homeowner Maria Rodriguez. "When we saw the car in our living room wall, we couldn't believe our eyes."
Police Find Driver 'Highly Intoxicated'
Responding officers reported finding Gonzalez still behind the wheel in a "highly intoxicated" state. According to the police report, she admitted to consuming "multiple alcoholic beverages" at a nearby bar before deciding to drive home.
"This could have been so much worse," said San Antonio Police Sergeant David Alvarez. "Had this happened during daylight hours when children might have been playing in the yard, we could be talking about fatalities."
A Growing Problem in Texas
The incident highlights Texas's ongoing struggle with drunk driving. The state consistently ranks among the highest in the nation for alcohol-related traffic fatalities.
Local authorities are using this case to remind residents about the dangers of impaired driving and the availability of ride-sharing services as alternatives.
Gonzalez now faces multiple charges including DWI and criminal mischief. If convicted, she could face up to a year in jail and fines up to $4,000.
