Declan Rice gets six-month driving ban for speeding

Arsenal and England footballer Declan Rice has been handed a six-month driving ban and a substantial fine after being caught speeding twice on the same road within the space of a week.

The Speeding Offences

The 26-year-old £105million midfielder was first caught driving his £40,000 Land Rover at 37mph in a 30mph zone on the A217 near his Surrey home on 3 January 2025. Just five days later, on 8 January 2025, he was clocked on the same road doing 49mph in a 40mph zone.

Court Ruling and Penalties

Rice did not appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court on Tuesday but was convicted in his absence. The court imposed a total financial penalty of £2,185, which is made up of a £1,500 fine, a £600 victim surcharge, and £85 in court costs.

More significantly, he was banned from driving for six months. This disqualification came via a 'totting up' procedure, as the new points from these offences took his total to 15 on his licence. He already had six points prior to these incidents.

Background and Personal Life

The footballer, who lives in a £3million mansion in Surrey, began his career in Chelsea's academy before signing his first professional contract with West Ham United in 2015. He captained West Ham to victory in the 2023 Europa Conference League final before his record-breaking move to Arsenal later that summer.

Rice is in a relationship with Lauren Fryer, 26, and the couple have a young son together.
