A young girl has tragically lost her life following a collision with a car in south London, with the driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
Details of the Fatal Incident
Emergency services were called to the junction of Garrad's Road and Tooting Bec Road in Lambeth at approximately 12.50pm on Thursday, 12 December, following reports of a crash involving a vehicle and a child. The London Ambulance Service attended and provided emergency treatment at the scene before the 11-year-old victim was rushed to hospital.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the schoolgirl sadly succumbed to her injuries nearly a month later, on Sunday, 5 January.
Arrest and Police Investigation
Officers arrested a 54-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving and driving whilst under the influence of intoxicants. He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries by the Metropolitan Police.
Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in Lambeth, expressed her condolences, stating: "The victim's family are going through unimaginable pain, and our thoughts remain with them at this time."
Appeal for Witnesses
While investigators have already spoken to several witnesses, police are urging anyone else who was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward. Detective Chief Superintendent Bond added: "We would like to encourage anyone else who was in the area at the time of the incident to come forward with any information that may assist the investigation."
