Woman, 90, assaulted in Stockport burglary; two arrested

A 90-year-old woman was taken to hospital after being assaulted during a burglary at her home in Heald Green, Stockport. Greater Manchester Police confirmed her injuries are not life-threatening.

Arrests after police chase

Officers were responding to a concern-for-safety incident at around 2.30am on October 29 when they spotted the woman's vehicle being driven by an unknown man. The driver failed to stop for police and made off in the car.

The vehicle subsequently lost control, mounted a grass verge and crashed into a stationary vehicle. A 41-year-old white British man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary and serious assault. A 47-year-old white British woman was later arrested on suspicion of the same offences.

Investigation and community response

Both suspects remain in police custody for questioning. The victim is being supported by specialist officers as detectives investigate the circumstances of the incident.

Detective Inspector Craig Turner, from Stockport CID, said: "This was undoubtedly a traumatic experience for the victim, and we have specialist officers supporting her through this investigation."

He added: "This was a violent burglary and thanks to the brave victim reporting it, our officers made two swift arrests with the suspects taken into police custody to be interviewed. We believe this was a targeted attack and there is no wider risk to the community."

Extra patrols deployed

Turner said extra patrols have been deployed to the area to reassure residents. He said: "Your home is your sanctuary where you should feel safe, and not threatened by intruders. We are committed to tackling dangerous offenders and keeping our communities safe from harm."

Police have not released further details about the circumstances of the burglary or the nature of the woman's injuries. Officers are continuing their investigation and working to establish exactly what happened inside the home. Despite the arrests, both suspects remain under investigation and have not been charged with any offences.
