Four masked men ram-raided Wetherby Services in Yorkshire, using a car to smash into the building and steal a cash machine, in an incident captured on video by a passer-by.
Shocking footage shows raid
The clip, filmed by Rupon Miah, 34, at 2am on July 29, shows what appears to be a black Nissan Juke reversing down the concourse of the services. The car repeatedly rammed a standalone ATM before the suspects exited the vehicle, opened its boot, and headed into the slot machine area.
Mr Miah, from Crystal Palace, London, told Sell Us Your Story: “I literally came out of the toilet at the service station and saw the car basically drive into the service station and was ramming the ATM with the car.
“I started recording after they rammed the first machine. I saw four males all get out of the car with masks on, balaclavas. They were just raiding the slot machine game room in the service station.”
Suspects flee with machine
After the raid, the group drove off with the ATM in the boot of the car. Mr Miah added: “Basically after that I went outside and walked to my car and saw them driving off with the ATM machine in the boot of their car with the boot open.”
North Yorkshire Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing, with no arrests yet. In a Facebook post on July 29, the force detailed the incident, stating that a black vehicle, believed to be an older-model Nissan Juke, was driven into the services through doors near the M&S Food store.
Police appeal for witnesses
Two suspects attached a chain to an ‘&PLAY’ cash pay-out machine, which was pulled free using the vehicle and loaded into the rear of the Nissan Juke. The car was later recovered in the Leeds area, having been set on fire, with the stolen cash machine found inside.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the Nissan Juke travelling between Wetherby and Leeds between 1am and 5am. They also want to identify and speak to three men believed to be witnesses, who are urged to come forward.
