A woman from Wicken, Northamptonshire, has expressed her joy after thieves returned an urn containing her mother's ashes, which had been stolen from her farm.
Sophie Edmondson discovered the carved wooden urn missing on 29 October, alongside jewellery and other sentimental items. Police believe two men in a white van were responsible for the burglary.
On Monday morning, the family found the urn under some scaffolding during a routine inspection. The urn, which held the ashes of Hannah Aquarone, who died aged 65 in 2017, was intact but smelled of bleach.
Ms Edmondson said she was 'beaming from ear to ear' and thanked everyone who shared the story on social media. She suspects the media coverage prompted the thieves to return the urn.
Despite the return, other stolen items such as jewellery, handwritten notes, and a USB stick with her mother's voice remain missing. Ms Edmondson plans to scatter her mother's ashes among the bluebells in Norfolk next spring.
