Masked robbers used a car to ram into Wetherby Services on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire, stealing an ATM and cash machine before fleeing. The vehicle was later found burned out in Leeds with the stolen machine inside.
Incident details
A passer-by, Rupon Miah, 34, from London, filmed the black Nissan Juke reversing down the concourse of the services at around 2am on July 29. The footage shows the car repeatedly ramming a standalone ATM, causing visible damage, before four men in balaclavas got out and opened the boot.
The men then entered the services' slot machine area and used a chain to pull free an “&PLAY” cash pay-out machine, which was loaded into the rear of the Nissan Juke. Miah said he saw them driving off with the boot open and the ATM inside.
Police appeal
North Yorkshire Police confirmed the investigation is ongoing with no arrests made. In a statement on Facebook, the force detailed the incident and said the Nissan Juke was recovered in the Leeds area, having been set on fire. The stolen cash machine was found inside.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses, particularly three men who may have seen the incident and are believed to be witnesses, not suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 12260145086.
