Man admits stealing escort's handbag and dangerous driving

Adnaan Yassain, 38, has admitted stealing an escort's handbag and driving dangerously along a busy Birmingham city centre street. He entered the guilty plea on the first day of his trial at Birmingham Crown Court last Monday (October 12).

Bag snatched after meeting in city centre

Yassain took a large black Balis and Harding bag belonging to Victoria Holcombe after meeting her on September 27, 2022. The bag contained clothes, an iPhone 11, a purse with bank cards and £300 in cash, the court was told.

Ms Holcombe previously said she chased Yassain down the street to retrieve her bag, but he was already in a car. She said she put her arm through the open car window in an attempt to seize it back.

Victim dragged along the road

She said he "sped off with me attached to the car, dragging me about 100 yards". Ms Holcombe said she was left with injuries to her face after striking the pavement during the incident.

Yassain was initially charged with robbery but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of theft and dangerous driving.

Sentencing scheduled

A pre-sentence report was ordered ahead of sentencing on December 14. Yassain was released on unconditional bail to attend the sentencing hearing.
