A seventh suspect has been detained by counter-terrorism officers investigating the deadly attack on a Manchester synagogue.
Airport Arrest in Ongoing Investigation
A 31-year-old man was arrested at Manchester Airport on Thursday after arriving on an inbound flight. According to Greater Manchester Police, the suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.
This arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into the horrific incident at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Crumpsall, which occurred on October 2.
Details of the October Attack
The attack saw Jihad Al-Shamie, a 35-year-old Syrian-born UK citizen, drive his Kia Picanto into the synagogue gates before launching a knife attack while wearing a fake suicide belt.
Tragically, Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby, who were worshippers at the synagogue, lost their lives during the assault.
Armed police responded to the scene and shot the attacker dead. Three other men sustained serious injuries and required hospital treatment following the violent episode.
Police Appeals and Further Developments
Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts, who leads Counter Terrorism Policing North West, confirmed that the families of the victims and those injured have been informed of this recent arrest.
Mr Potts reiterated the force's appeal for information, stating: "Our investigation is continuing, and I would once again appeal for anyone with information that they think could assist our enquiries to please come forward."
Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who was present during the attack or its immediate aftermath to ensure they receive appropriate welfare support.
In a related development, a 30-year-old man arrested on October 9 on suspicion of failing to disclose information under the Terrorism Act 2000 remains on bail.
