Manchester man charged with terrorism offences linked to synagogue attacker
Man charged with assisting Manchester synagogue attacker

A British national has been formally charged with four terrorism offences, including assisting the man responsible for the deadly attack on a Manchester synagogue earlier this year.

Charges Detail Alleged Assistance

Mohammad Bashir, aged 31, was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) on Thursday, 4 December 2025. The charges allege that he assisted Jihad Al-Shamie, the perpetrator of the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue attack, with reconnaissance on a UK defence facility.

The CPS was clear that this alleged assistance was not connected to the synagogue assault itself, which occurred on 2 October and resulted in the deaths of two worshippers. Instead, the charges relate to earlier reconnaissance activity.

Arrest and Court Appearance

Bashir was apprehended by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North West at Manchester Airport on 27 November. The arrest followed an extensive investigation into the wider network associated with the attacker.

In addition to the charge of assisting with reconnaissance, Bashir faces accusations of sharing material online with the intent to encourage acts of terrorism. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Ongoing Counter-Terrorism Response

This development marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Manchester synagogue attack. The charges highlight the continued focus of UK counter-terrorism units on disrupting all aspects of terrorist planning and support networks.

The case underscores the serious nature of the allegations, with the CPS authorising multiple terrorism-related charges against a single individual in connection to this high-profile incident.
