Manchester Airport Arrest in Synagogue Terror Investigation
Counter Terrorism officers have made a significant new arrest in the ongoing investigation into the devastating attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. A 31-year-old man was detained at Manchester Airport after arriving on an inbound flight, marking the seventh arrest connected to the October 2nd incident that claimed two lives.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
The suspect was taken into custody at approximately midday on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism. Assistant Chief Constable Rob Potts, who holds operational responsibility for Counter Terrorism Policing North West, confirmed the development and stated that the families of victims Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz have been informed about this latest arrest.
The tragic attack occurred at around 9.30am on October 2, when worshippers were gathered at the synagogue. Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby both lost their lives in what authorities have described as an appalling terrorist act committed by Jihad Al Shamie. Several other individuals sustained serious injuries during the incident.
Ongoing Police Efforts and Previous Arrests
This arrest brings the total number of people detained in connection with the investigation to seven. In a related development, a 30-year-old man arrested on October 9 on suspicion of failing to disclose information contrary to S38B of the Terrorism Act 2000 remains on bail.
Assistant Chief Constable Potts has reiterated his appeal to the public for information, stating: 'Our investigation is continuing, and I would once again appeal for anyone with information that they think could assist our inquiries to please come forward.' The Counter Terrorism Policing North West team continues to pursue all active lines of enquiry in this complex investigation.
All individuals arrested in connection with the case remain either in custody or under investigation as authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and identify any potential associates involved in the planning or execution of the violence that shocked the Manchester community.
