A massive drone attack targeted the Moscow region in the early hours of Sunday, killing at least three people and wounding 12 others, according to Russian officials. Social media images showed explosions in multiple parts of the Russian capital and surrounding areas, including at an oil refinery.
Casualties and Damage
Moscow regional Governor Andrei Vorobyov reported that two men died in the village of Pogorelki, while a woman was killed in Khimki, north of Moscow. Several tower blocks and infrastructure sites were damaged in the strike. All four Moscow airports experienced operational disruptions since late Saturday.
Wider Offensive
The attack appeared part of a broader offensive, with Russia's Defence Ministry claiming over 550 drones were shot down across the country. Moscow's mayor, Sergey Sobyanin, stated that the oil refinery's technology was not impacted, but a shift of workers was affected. Russian authorities blamed Ukraine, though Kyiv has not claimed responsibility.
