Brooke George, a British TikTok star from Gravesend, Kent, remains in custody in Dubai after being charged with the murder of fellow Briton William Treeby, 26. The incident occurred at an apartment in Dubai last week, and George claims she acted in self-defence after being attacked. If convicted, she could face death by firing squad.
Campaign Group Submits Intelligence
Detained in Dubai, a campaign group assisting foreigners in the city, has submitted what it describes as 'relevant information and intelligence' to UK and UAE authorities. The group believes that potential witnesses may have key evidence stored on their mobile phones that could establish a timeline of events and identify other witnesses.
According to reports, five people were present at the apartment on the night of the stabbing: Brooke, William, two of his male friends, and a maid. One of the men is reportedly wanted by Kent Police. The group has stressed that anyone in Britain who received calls from the apartment in the hours after the death should be interviewed.
Urgent Appeal for Evidence Preservation
Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, said: 'Given the gravity of the proceedings and the potential consequences Brooke George faces, we believe it is imperative that every appropriate avenue is explored to ensure that all relevant information is properly considered.'
She added: 'Where a young British citizen is facing the possibility of the death penalty overseas, there must be a diligent, impartial and comprehensive investigation, with every reasonable effort made to identify, preserve and examine relevant evidence. Justice cannot depend upon incomplete evidence or overlooked lines of enquiry.' The group has urged that mobile phone evidence be secured before it is deleted or lost.
Victim's Criminal History
The Mirror revealed that William Treeby was convicted of unlawful wounding and common assault at Maidstone Crown Court in December 2023, in relation to an attack on a woman and a man. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison, suspended for two years.
Mother's Plea
Brooke's mother, Thereza George, has spoken out, saying her daughter was 'crying uncontrollably' in a phone call hours before the stabbing. She said Brooke 'did not seem like herself' the day before the incident and that there were clear signs something was wrong in her relationship. 'After Brooke returned to Dubai for the second time, the dynamic between them had clearly changed,' she said. 'The day before the incident, she did not seem like herself. She was quieter and not her usual happy, cheerful self, but she did not tell me why.'
She continued: 'That evening they went to a bar in Dubai. When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified. I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably. I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close.'
Official Response
A Foreign Office spokesperson said: 'We are in touch with a British woman detained in the UAE, we are supporting her family, and we are in contact with the local authorities.'
