A 21-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped in a shed after being abducted by four men who broke into her home while her mother was held at gunpoint. Police have arrested three suspects, while a fourth remains at large.
Attack details
The incident occurred on May 9 in the city of Gwalior, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The men reportedly broke into the home at around 11.30pm local time (7pm in the UK) while the victim was with her mother and brother.
The suspects took the woman to a nearby shed and raped her, threatening to shoot her mother if she raised an alarm. They also threatened her brother with a weapon before fleeing the scene.
Arrests and ongoing manhunt
Three of the suspects were arrested on Monday (August 24) following an extensive police investigation. Local media identified those arrested as Lokendra Rawat, Yogesh Rawat and Jitendra Rawat, while Jagmohan Rawat remains at large.
Sudhir Singh Kushwah, the police officer in charge of the case, confirmed the arrests and said the force is continuing to work to track down Jagmohan. Police are carrying out raids in the area and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Victim's condition
The victim took a poisonous substance after the alleged gang rape due to the distress it caused her. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment and has since been discharged.
Gwalior is located in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh, near the border with Uttar Pradesh. The city has an estimated population of around 1.6 million people.
