Two men have been arrested on suspicion of rape and attempted rape following two separate attacks on women in Milton Keynes. The incidents occurred in the Conniburrow area of the Buckinghamshire city, prompting a major police investigation.
The first attack took place on September 10, when a woman in her 30s was reportedly targeted while crossing a pedestrian bridge. Just weeks later, on September 23, a second victim, a woman in her 50s, was allegedly attacked in the same area.
Arrests and Bail
Thames Valley Police have arrested a 22-year-old man and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of rape and attempted rape. Both suspects have been released on bail while police inquiries continue.
Detectives are appealing for the public's assistance, particularly asking residents in Conniburrow, Bradwell, Bradwell Common, Linford Wood, and Heelands to check their home security setups.
Appeal for Footage
Investigating officers are urging anyone who was in the area between 8pm and 11pm on September 23 to check Ring doorbells, CCTV, or dashcam footage for any sightings of a man on a bicycle.
Det Insp Graeme Williams sought to reassure the public, saying: "We appreciate that news of these incidents will have caused concern to local residents, and I would like to reassure you that we are following every line of enquiry available to us in order to bring whoever is responsible to justice."
He added: "Both women are being supported by officers and we remain in contact with them. Based on the information available to us at the current time, we do not believe these incidents to be linked to any other offences in the area."
Ongoing Investigation
Det Insp Williams noted that police have been carrying out comprehensive enquiries, including house-to-house and CCTV scoping. He said: "In addition to the appeal we issued last week, which included an image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with these incidents, we would now like to hear from anyone with Ring Doorbell that may have captured him between the hours of 8pm and 11pm on 23 September."
