Sofia Drotts, a 26-year-old behavioral health clinician, has been charged with unlawful sexual intercourse, oral copulation of a person under 18, and sexual penetration by a foreign object after allegedly grooming and raping a teenage boy.
Charges Filed
Authorities served Drotts, of San Francisco, with the charges on Monday. She reportedly counselled the boy while he was at the John Davis Juvenile Detention Center in Martinez, Contra Costa County, California.
Concord Police arrested Drotts after a tip from a supervisor in the probation department, but she has since been released.
Alleged Grooming and Secret Meetings
According to attorney John Burris, who represents the victim's family, Drotts began grooming the boy in 2024 when he was 14 or 15, after being assigned as his client. She allegedly posed as his teenage girlfriend and used a burner phone to maintain contact after his release.
Burris told the New York Post: "The duplicitous nature of it is really outrageous. She's engaged in this nefarious conduct, and she's covering her tracks with different kinds of lies."
The alleged rapes occurred after the boy left the facility. Drotts, a University of Wisconsin–Madison graduate, would meet with the teen and his mother, presenting herself as a county therapist. However, Burris alleges she also met him secretly in her car and apartment, and he would stay overnight.
Drotts would tell the mother that her son was doing well while simultaneously encouraging him to break curfew and skip school, Burris claimed. A search of the teen's home reportedly uncovered evidence.
Mother’s Trust Shattered
The mother, whose name is withheld, said: "We trusted this professional with our son's healing and well-being, and that trust was fundamentally shattered."
