A 19-year-old woman was allegedly gang raped by three masked men after going to a forest for a photoshoot in Odisha, India. The incident took place on August 5 in the Pine Forest area along the Jeypore-Koraput road.
Attack during photoshoot
The woman had travelled to the forest with a male friend to take part in a photoshoot when the three men allegedly targeted them. According to police sources, the suspects had covered their faces and threatened the pair with knives.
They are then accused of taking cash from the woman and her friend and forcing them to transfer money online. Police said the three men then allegedly raped the woman before fleeing the area.
Investigation and arrests
A written complaint was later made at Koraput Sadar police station and officers opened an investigation. Police said they were able to identify three suspects following the complaint.
The men were named as Barun Hial, from Jeypore Sadar, Surendra Harijan, from Nabarangpur, and Sanyasi Sagar, also known as Sanyasi Gamango, from Jeypore Sadar. All three were arrested on Saturday and later produced before a court.
Ongoing inquiries
Officers are continuing to investigate exactly what happened and are also working to establish whether anybody else was involved in the incident.
