Shocking Assault at Family Christmas Event
A young woman was sexually assaulted by a member of a gang that surrounded her at a crowded festive event in Middlesbrough. The incident occurred on Saturday, December 13, as the 25-year-old victim was leaving the Bazaar Restaurant in Captain Cook Square.
The area was packed with parents and children attending the council's 'Snow at Six' event, which featured snow machines and entertainers. Between approximately 7:30pm and 8:00pm, the woman was approached by a group of five to seven men who made comments to her.
Police Hunt for Suspects
The men, who are believed to be Asian and aged between 17 and 23, then formed a circle around the woman before one of them sexually assaulted her. Following the attack, the group fled in the direction of Borough Road, while the distressed victim returned to the restaurant to raise the alarm.
Cleveland Police have launched an investigation and released a CCTV image of a man they urgently wish to speak to in connection with the probe. PC Burnhope from Middlesbrough's neighbourhood policing team stated the force is doing all it can to identify those responsible.
An unnamed local businessman told reporters the square was 'full of young families' at the time, making the brazen nature of the attack particularly shocking. He confirmed that four police officers on patrol were alerted and reacted swiftly, but the gang had already disappeared.

The force spokesperson confirmed the details, noting the men were wearing dark clothing. Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area, has information, or recognises the man in the CCTV image to come forward.
