A depraved predator who snatched a five-year-old girl off the street in a brazen daytime abduction has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 13 years.
James Robert Allen, 56, committed what a judge described as a "every parent's worst nightmare" when he lured the young child away from a residential street in Wythenshawe, Manchester. The court heard how he then subjected her to a terrifying and sustained sexual assault.
A Community Shocked by a Brazen Attack
The abduction occurred in broad daylight, sending shockwaves through the local community and triggering a massive police response. The young victim was found by a member of the public a short time later, distressed but physically safe.
Detective Chief Inspector James Coles of Greater Manchester Police praised the public's assistance, stating: "This was a truly horrifying incident... The quick-time response from officers and the support from the community was vital."
A Lengthy Prison Sentence
At Manchester Crown Court, Allen was handed a life sentence after pleading guilty to abduction and sexual assault. He will not be eligible for parole for at least 13 years.
In addition to the life term, the judge imposed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed Allen on the Sex Offenders' Register for life, recognising the ongoing danger he poses to the public.
The case has highlighted critical concerns about child safety and the monitoring of known offenders, leaving a community grappling with the trauma of such a vicious attack occurring in their midst.
