Jailed bike-fixing rapist Anthony Badham prompts police appeal
Police appeal after bike-fixing rapist Anthony Badham jailed

Anthony Badham, a 61-year-old from Newbridge, has been jailed for 25 years after pleading guilty to a string of sexual offences involving four boys. The sentence was handed down at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday, October 23.

Gwent Police began investigating Badham in 2022 when two victims came forward. Three years later, two further victims reported his crimes.

Investigation and community engagement

Police say Badham was well known in the community of Pontymister and would regularly engage with children through his hobby of fixing up cars and bikes. Detectives believe he may have had the opportunity to commit further offences against other children.

Due to the nature of the offending and Badham being well known in the community at the time, officers are encouraging other potential victim-survivors to come forward.

Police appeal for other victims

Detective Sergeant Laura Redwood, the officer in charge, said: “At the heart of this investigation are four men, who have shown remarkable strength and resilience. Their courage in reporting the defendant’s despicable crimes mean he is rightfully behind bars.”

“Through the accounts of the victims, we learned that Badham was well known in the community and would regularly engage with children through his hobby of fixing up cars and bikes. As a result, we believe that he may have had the opportunity to commit further offences against other children.”

DS Redwood added: “We understand that reporting crimes of this nature can be difficult and daunting, but we want to stress that you are not alone. Anyone reporting child sexual offences will be listened to and supported.”

Anyone with information or wishing to report offences related to Badham is asked to contact Gwent Police by calling 101, sending a direct message on social media, or via the Gwent Police website.
