NYPD Inspector Jeremy Scheublin, 45, has been fired after being accused of attempting to rape a black female colleague in his Bronx office. The alleged assault occurred on New Year's Day 2025, while both officers were on duty.
Allegations of Sexual Harassment and Assault
The woman, a decorated five-year NYPD veteran, claims Scheublin sexually harassed her for over a year before the incident. According to prosecutors, Scheublin blocked the exit of his office, grabbed her buttocks, picked her up, and dropped her on a couch. He then got on top of her and tried to kiss her while she blocked her face. He also attempted to pull open her belt, but she thwarted him by kicking him in the testicles.
Scheublin allegedly told her, "I don't know whether to kiss or choke you," and added, "I want to make biracial babies with you." As they left his office, he said, "The next time you come to my office, make sure you wear sweatpants."
Charges and Termination
Scheublin faces charges including attempted rape, first-degree sexual abuse, assault, and unlawful imprisonment. He had been suspended and applied for retirement, but the New York Police Department fired him on Monday. His attorney, Oliver Stortch, said the firing was due to Scheublin's refusal to cooperate with an internal investigation while civil and criminal cases are ongoing. Stortch stated, "He was not fired because he was found to have done anything wrong."
Assistant District Attorney Michael Naughton detailed the assault in court, noting that Scheublin had authority over the victim. The woman alleges Scheublin retaliated against her by altering her schedule to 3 a.m. shifts, removing her longtime partner, and cutting her overtime by $20,000 in a year.
Legal Proceedings
Scheublin pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is next scheduled to appear in court on October 30, 2026. The case is ongoing in Bronx Supreme Court.
