Police are searching for a man in his 30s or 40s after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a stranger in woodland in Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
The incident is thought to have taken place in an area of trees off the Wide Lane roundabout near Mansbridge Road in Swaythling.
Police appeal for witnesses
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary are appealing for anyone who was in the area between 2pm and 3.10pm to come forward.
Detective Superintendent Ross Toms said: “This incident was understandably very distressing for the girl involved.
“Our specialist officers are supporting her while we have significant resources in the area thoroughly investigating this incident as a priority.”
Description of suspect
The suspect is described as tall and skinny, with pale or sandy skin, aged in his 30s or 40s. His hair is blonde, greasy and curtain style, slicked back, and he has an inch-long dirty-blonde beard.
He was wearing a dark, short-sleeved top which was short at the back, blue skinny jeans, and beige or white plimsole style shoes. The man is also said to have a tattoo on one arm which appeared to be scribbles or writing.
Lines of enquiry
Police will be in the Swaythling area following up on all available lines of enquiry, speaking to local people and reviewing CCTV.
Det Supt Toms added: “If you saw or heard anything in this area between the times stated, no matter how small, your information could be crucial so please contact police.
“If you know someone who matches this description, you have seen this man in the area, or have perhaps captured him on CCTV, Dash Cam, or doorbell camera, then please contact police immediately.”
