A depraved individual who meticulously planned to rape a relative after sharing his twisted fantasies in online chat rooms has been handed an 18-year sentence in a case that has horrified the nation.
Benjamin Farrington, 30, was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court after admitting to a slew of charges, including arranging the commission of a child sex offence and inciting rape.
From Online Fantasies to Chilling Reality
The court heard how Farrington's descent into darkness began in the digital underworld. He actively engaged in perverted conversations on online platforms, where he vividly detailed his intention to carry out a violent sexual attack on a young relative.
These were not just idle boasts. The evidence presented showed a calculated plan was being formed, moving from horrific fantasy to a tangible threat.
A Web of Depravity Unravels
Thankfully, Farrington's sinister plot was intercepted before any physical harm could be inflicted. Law enforcement officials uncovered his online activity, leading to his immediate arrest and the safeguarding of the intended victim.
Upon searching his residence, investigators discovered a cache of Category A indecent images of children on his devices, further compounding the severity of his crimes.
Justice Served at Warwick Crown Court
In a recent hearing, Recorder Graham Huston condemned Farrington's actions, emphasising the premeditated and abhorrent nature of his plans. The 18-year sentence includes an extended licence period of four years, recognising him as a continued danger to the public.
Farrington was also made subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and will be on the sex offenders' register for life.
