Ex-EastEnders actor guilty of sexual assault

John Altford, a former actor from the popular BBC soap opera EastEnders, has been convicted of sexual assault following an incident at a pub in London. The verdict was delivered at a London court this week.

The court heard how the 52-year-old actor assaulted a woman in her 20s at a pub in the Richmond area. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the assault took place in the early hours of the morning on 1st July 2023.

Altford, who portrayed the character of Eddie in the long-running soap, was found guilty after a trial. Detective Constable Sarah Smith from the Metropolitan Police's South West Command Unit praised the victim for her "immense courage in coming forward and supporting this prosecution."

The actor has been released on bail ahead of his sentencing, which is scheduled for a later date. This conviction adds to the growing list of #MeToo era cases within the entertainment industry, highlighting ongoing concerns about abuse of power and sexual misconduct.
