Son slashes dad in prison revenge attack, gets jailed

A 25-year-old man has been sentenced to prison for a brutal and premeditated attack on his own father, whom he met for the very first time behind bars.

A Savage Assault Behind Bars

Lee Spence carried out the violent assault on 12 July last year within the walls of HMP Perth. The court heard how Spence attacked his father, John Spence, with a blade in what was described as a revenge attack motivated by grievances related to his mother.

The assault left John Spence with a severe laceration running from his ear down to his neck. The injury was so significant that it required medical treatment with more than 40 stitches.

Guilty Plea and Court Proceedings

Lee Spence later admitted his guilt when the case was called at the High Court in Edinburgh in November. He pleaded guilty to striking his father on the head and neck with a blade and to the charge of attempting to murder him.

Prosecutors detailed the attack as "savage, premeditated and unprovoked", highlighting the calculated nature of the violence during what was the first-ever meeting between the two men.

Justice Served

The court has now handed down a prison sentence to Lee Spence for his actions. The case underscores the extreme and tragic consequences of familial conflict spilling into the prison environment.

This incident at HMP Perth serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced within the penal system and the potential for volatile situations to erupt, even during controlled visits.
