A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to four months in prison after a shoplifting spree that included stealing an entire display of Mini Eggs from a Tesco supermarket. Ashley Daley admitted to 12 theft offences, one attempted theft, and possession of a bladed article.
Daley targeted shops in Cardiff, Taff's Well, Merthyr Tydfil, Chepstow, and Caldicot over three weeks, causing losses of £4,000. South Wales Police said he acted in a planned manner, attending various locations, and made no effort to hide his identity, with many crimes captured on CCTV.
In one incident, Daley stole a complete display of Mini Eggs from a Tesco store. He also stole meat, Easter eggs, and alcohol. Police stopped him in a vehicle on February 21 shortly after a theft, and a kitchen knife was found in his possession.
During his police interview, Daley appeared irritated and answered 'no comment' to questions. Detective Constable Warriner described him as a 'prolific offender' who showed 'clear disregard for the law'. Warriner added that shoplifting is not a victimless crime, causing financial and emotional harm.
Daley had also been involved in shoplifting in the West Midlands. CCTV footage suggested he may have had a female accomplice, but police have not confirmed any investigation into her actions.
