Ex-paramedic jailed 25 years for contaminating co-workers' food

A former paramedic in Maryland has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after admitting he contaminated a coffee machine and caused co-workers to ingest his bodily fluids. Christopher M. Carroll, 36, pleaded guilty in August to three counts of causing another to ingest bodily fluids in three separate work incidents.

Investigation and Arrest

Carroll had worked at a Baltimore County fire station and the fire department headquarters. The Baltimore County Police Department investigated after receiving reports in November last year that Carroll had "tampered with and contaminated items that were later consumed."

The force said Carroll was arrested in February and that "during the investigation, detectives obtained video evidence depicting and/or suggesting conduct that resulted in individuals unknowingly coming into contact with, or ingesting, Carroll's bodily fluids."

Evidence and Additional Acts

According to CBS News, Carroll was caught when police discovered surveillance footage showing him committing the acts. They also found videos Carroll had filmed himself and then posted online.

Prosecutors said Carroll's acts were not isolated to the fire stations, and there are fears there may be other victims. Court records show Carroll was accused of ejaculating and urinating on work equipment and onto the personal belongings of colleagues. He also allegedly put semen in a communal coffee creamer and onto his female supervisor's keyboard, as well as urinated into an ice machine.

Sentencing

Speaking in court at his sentencing on October 14, Carroll was in tears when he said he was "truly sorry to everyone involved." Carroll was suspended from the Baltimore County Fire Department pending the investigation.
