Simon Richardson, 35, who murdered Stretford Grammar headteacher Michael Mullins, is to be sentenced today (November 2) at Minshull Street Crown Court.
Richardson struck 56-year-old Mr Mullins, who was cycling home, with his Volvo in April at the junction of Dunham Road and Warburton Lane, Partington. The father of two was dragged under the wheels of Richardson's car for 1.3 miles (2.2km) before dying at the roadside on Wet Gate Lane in Lymm.
Guilty verdict after trial
Richardson, of no fixed address but formerly of Epsom Avenue, Sale, denied murder, an alternate offence of manslaughter, and dangerous driving. He stood trial at Minshull Street Crown Court.
On Friday (October 30), after two days of deliberations, jurors found him guilty of murder and dangerous driving. Today, Monday, November 2, he is to be sentenced before Mrs Justice Kate Brunner KC.
Case background
Richardson forced the beloved educator's family to endure a Crown Court trial, too cowardly to admit his guilt. Following two weeks of evidence, jurors convicted him of murder and dangerous driving.
Mr Mullins was a beloved and popular headteacher of Stretford Grammar School. The sentencing hearing is now underway in court.
