A man who controlled and abused his former partner, threatened to kill her and her daughter, and tried to force his way into their home has been jailed for two and a half years.
Peter Kennedy, 42, now of Belle Vale Road, Belle Vale, admitted controlling and coercive behaviour, harassment and two counts of assault following a four-year relationship with Gillian Bowden in Eastham, Wirral.
Abuse detailed in court
Liverpool Crown Court heard that Kennedy banned her from social media, checked her phone, accused her of cheating and kicked her during an argument.
When Ms Bowden ended the relationship, Kennedy kicked at the front door as she and her daughter barricaded themselves inside. He made throat-cutting gestures and issued death threats. Police had to taser him after he fled to his car when disturbed by neighbours.
Victim impact statement
In a victim statement, Ms Bowden told the court: "All I feel is anger and rage. My life will never be the same again and I will never be able to trust, love or have anyone in my life."
Kennedy was handed a 10-year restraining order by Recorder Eric Lamb, who said the "devastating impact" on his victim meant an immediate custodial sentence was the only appropriate punishment.
