James Acaster banishes himself on Celebrity Traitors

James Acaster banished himself from Celebrity Traitors after admitting at the roundtable that he had been recruited as a traitor against his will, leaving Kenny and Maya as the only traitors in the final.

Shock Confession at the Roundtable

On Thursday (October 29), the BBC series saw an intense roundtable after Joanne McNally was banished first, followed by Sharon Rooney being murdered. As the faithfuls continued their hunt for the next traitor, Acaster's confession stunned both viewers and fellow contestants.

He announced: "I was made a traitor without wanting to be. I had a unique experience on this that no one's had before, where I wanted to be a faithful that's all I wanted to be."

Game Context and Previous Series

The hit BBC series returned for its second instalment, following celebrity contestants – the majority known as Faithfuls – as they try to identify the murderous traitors among them, who eliminate players in the middle of the night. Stars compete to win a cash prize of up to £100,000 for a charity of their choice.

Last year, an intense final saw Nick Mohammed turn on Joe Marler at the last minute and vote him to be banished. With everyone else in agreement, Joe walked away from the prize pot. In a turn of events, traitor Alan Carr remained undetected and swept the entire amount, £87,500 for his chosen charity - Neuroblastoma UK.

Final Line-Up

The first episode of the second series on Thursday (October 1) saw Maya Jama and Richard E Grant chosen as the traitors. This series has been up and down between the faithfuls and traitors, after Richard was the first to be banished from the castle, marking the earliest a traitor had been eliminated.

With Acaster's self-banishment, Kenny and Maya are the only traitors in the final, with faithfuls Michael Sheen, James Blunt, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Sebastian Croft hoping to take the win. Celebrity Traitors finale airs on Friday October 30 at 8pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
