James Acaster admitted he was a Traitor during the roundtable on Celebrity Traitors, a moment viewers described as a show first that left many saying he had "ruined the game". The comedian confessed to murdering Ross Kemp in plain sight before being voted out ahead of the final.
Confession at the roundtable
In the penultimate episode of the second celebrity series, tensions rose after a challenge featuring James Blunt screaming out of a window. When the remaining players sat down for the roundtable, speculation from Michael Sheen prompted Acaster to break his cover.
Speaking to the cameras, Acaster said: "They've got me, I've been caught. I've always been a Faithful at heart. The reluctant traitor. So I'm going to do what I've done this whole game, continue to be completely honest."
Acaster's explanation
He added: "I'm glad that I got to play this game on my own terms. I'm glad I got to support my fellow Traitors because they mean the world to me. When I came into this experience I told Claudia all I wanted to be was a Faithful."
Addressing the group, he said: "I just want to explain my situation, I was made a Traitor. I don't want to say 'it's me vote for me', but it's all I can do really."
Fan reaction and exit
Viewers reacted with shock on X, with one writing: "What the hell has just happened." Another said: "This is sooo painful," while others posted: "James Acaster broke. Wow," "I can't believe he just did this….," and "WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!"
Some criticised the move, with comments including "Great way to ruin a good roundtable," "James Acaster you ruined the game," and "Ruined the whole round table!" Acaster was voted out, leaving fellow Traitors Kenny and Maya. The final airs Friday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
