British Transport Police (BTP) have released CCTV images of a man they want to identify following an alleged attempted rape on the London Underground. The incident occurred on a Bakerloo line train between Waterloo and Lambeth North stations at around 11:40pm on Saturday.
Attack details
According to detectives, a man approached a woman travelling alone in the carriage. He is said to have indecently exposed himself before pulling her to the floor and attempting to rape her. The woman managed to resist and escape the train at Lambeth North, where she alerted station staff. The suspect remained on the train and got off at Elephant and Castle, the next stop.
Police investigation
Officers have been tracing the man's movements and believe he may have been at Oxford Circus before the attack and at Piccadilly Circus station afterwards. BTP Detective Sergeant Krishan Appannah said: "Our officers are supporting the victim following this horrific incident. We understand incidents of this nature are deeply concerning for the public and we're appealing to them directly to help us identify the man in the CCTV footage. One line of enquiry is that he may be homeless."
Appeal for information
BTP are urging anyone who recognises the man to text his name to 61016 quoting reference 948 of 11 July. Witnesses or anyone with information can also call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
