Sam Altman's Sister Amends Sexual Abuse Lawsuit Against OpenAI CEO
Annie Altman, the sister of OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman, has filed an amended civil lawsuit accusing him of sexual abuse dating back more than two decades. This follows a federal judge's dismissal of her initial complaint last month, which was refiled under Missouri's Childhood Sexual Abuse statute on Wednesday morning.
Legal Proceedings and Statute of Limitations
U.S. District Judge Zachary Bluestone ruled that Annie Altman cannot pursue sexual assault and sexual battery claims over alleged abuse between 1997 and 2006, as those claims expired in 2008. However, the Missouri statute permits some accusers to sue for alleged abuse from long ago, allowing her to proceed with an amended complaint. Lawyers for Sam Altman have not yet responded to requests for comment on the new filing.
Allegations and Family Response
Annie Altman accuses her brother of sexually abusing and raping her at various times between 1997 and 2006 at the family home in suburban Clayton, Missouri. She claims the abuse began when she was three years old and he was 12. Sam Altman, now 40, has denied the allegations. In a court filing, he stated that his family has been providing financial and other support to Annie, but he characterizes her lawsuit as extortion.
Background and Social Media Posts
The Altman family has publicly stated that Annie Altman faces mental health challenges. Sam Altman's defamation counterclaim originated from social media posts between 2021 and 2024 on platforms like X and TikTok, where Annie referred to alleged abuse without explicitly naming him. These posts included videos mentioning being "touched by older siblings" and molested by "an almost tech billionaire."
