Prince Harry has been dealt a five-word blow on GB News after confirming he will visit London alone due to ongoing security concerns. Presenter Nana Akua told the Duke of Sussex that he "makes it worse for himself" amid reports that the Duke is the focus of six terrorist plots, five originating in the UK. Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, will not accompany Harry, but royal commentator Jennie Bond believes the children could still meet their grandfather, King Charles, outside London.
Security Concerns Prompt Solo Visit
Harry's decision to travel without his family stems from his security protection dispute with the UK government. The Duke lost his automatic right to police protection in 2020 after stepping down as a senior working royal. He claims the Risk Management Board promised an annual review, but none has occurred since the Sussexes moved to California six years ago. GB News presenter Nana Akua argued that Harry is using his children as "bargaining chips" to secure the highest level of royal protection, known as RAVEC. She stated, "He does get a level of security, it's not like he's going around without security. He wanted RAVEC, which was the problem here. What he's complaining about is that he's not getting the highest level royal protection, that he feels he deserves it, but he has made it worse for himself."
Royal Commentator Suggests Alternative Meeting Locations
Jennie Bond, a former BBC royal correspondent, offered a more conciliatory view. She noted that Meghan might meet Harry in Birmingham, where the Invictus Games countdown will be held, rather than in London. Regarding the children's potential meeting with King Charles, Bond said, "As regards to possibly bringing the children to meet their grandfather, we've got Sandringham, Balmoral, Highgrove. There are places outside London, where the door has been left open to that happening, that I think it will be very much in private." She added that it would have been better for Harry to visit the Royal Hospital Chelsea and the Invictus Games alone, and that he could "probably brought the children into the country to see the King" without public knowledge. Bond remarked, "Particularly after what happened to his own mother, I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for security for a few days."
Family Holiday in Europe
The Sussexes are reportedly on holiday in Europe, though their exact location remains private. Despite Harry, Archie, and Lilibet being fifth, sixth, and seventh in line to the throne, the Duke's security status remains unresolved. The UK government has not commented on the latest reports of terrorist threats against Harry, but security experts have emphasized the need for proportionate protection. The Duke's legal challenge against the Home Office over his security arrangements is ongoing, with a court ruling expected later this year.
