Mourners are gathering in Lancashire tonight to remember smiley baby boy Preston Davey, who was tragically killed mere months after being placed with an adoptive couple in Blackpool.
Vigil on What Would Have Been His Fourth Birthday
On what would have been his fourth birthday, crowds are gathering in Preston in honour of the tragic toddler. He died aged just 13 months after he was sexually assaulted and killed by Jamie Varley, a Blackpool teacher who had been entrusted with adopting him.
After a seven-week trial at Preston Crown Court, Varley, 37, was yesterday found guilty of murder. His partner, John McGowan-Fazakerley, 32, was found guilty of allowing the little boy’s death.
Details of the Vigil
Tonight (June 16), at 8pm, a gathering will take place on Preston Flag Market to honour the memory of the little boy. Members of the public are invited to bring candles, bubbles and teddies to remember Preston.
Banners with his face on, along with signs reading 'It's time to put our children first' have been laid on the ground. There will also be a minute silence at 9pm, followed by a piper playing in his memory.
Members of the Justice For Preston Davey Facebook group have also encouraged those unable to attend in person to light a candle at home at 8pm.
We will bring you the latest updates from the vigil in the live blog below.
