Police to Fly to US to Interview Virginia Giuffre's Family in Andrew Probe
Police to Fly to US for Giuffre Family Interviews in Andrew Probe

Thames Valley Police officers are preparing to travel to the United States to interview relatives of Virginia Giuffre, the woman who has accused Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor of sexual assault. The move marks a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the disgraced royal, who has consistently denied all allegations.

Background of the Allegations

Virginia Giuffre has claimed that she was forced to have sex with Andrew on three occasions when she was a teenager, allegations the former prince has repeatedly and vehemently denied. In 2021, Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit against Andrew in the United States, which was settled out of court for an estimated £12 million. The settlement does not constitute an admission of guilt.

Giuffre was also a key figure in exposing the crimes of convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, with whom Andrew had a friendship. Andrew has denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein or Giuffre.

Arrest and Investigation

Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday in February at his Sandringham estate on suspicion of misconduct in a public office. He was later released under investigation. The Thames Valley Police have since broadened their inquiry to include allegations of fraud, corruption, bullying, and perverting justice during his 10-year tenure as UK trade envoy from 2001 to 2011.

Thames Valley Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright stated: “There’s a number of aspects of alleged misconduct that the investigation is examining. We are speaking to a range of witnesses and want anyone with information to get in touch with us.”

Family's Reaction

Following Andrew's arrest, Giuffre's brother, Sky Roberts, and Daniel Wilson issued a statement saying: “At last, today, our broken hearts have been lifted at the news that no one is above the law, not even royalty. On behalf of our sister, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, we extend our gratitude to the UK’s Thames Valley Police for their investigation, and the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. He was never a prince. For survivors everywhere, Virginia did this for you.”

According to The Times, officers are expected to speak to Sky Roberts and his wife, Amanda Roberts, during their visit to the US.

Wider Investigation and Evidence

More than three million documents and videos relating to Epstein have been released by the US Justice Department since December. Files reportedly show Andrew passing on details of royal visits and investment opportunity briefings. The widened police investigation is examining potential aspects of misconduct in public office, an offence that carries a maximum life sentence.

Thames Valley Police is urging any witnesses or individuals with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
