A new demand letter has surfaced claiming to contain video footage of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC presenter Savannah Guthrie, on the day she allegedly died. Nancy was taken from her home earlier this year, and her whereabouts remain unknown. Kidnappers have alleged that she has died, though this has not been confirmed by police.
Details of the Latest Demand
The anonymous sender, who has been contacting TMZ, claims to know the identity of Nancy's kidnappers, stating there are two individuals involved. The sender also asserts they have a video of 'the main guy' and Nancy on the day she allegedly died. In the email, the person wrote: 'I am not the idiot who recently called in a tip about her burial site in Mexico,' which TMZ has authenticated as a previous source.
The sender continued: 'I have a phone stashed in a secure location guaranteeing both the information it stores and the safety of the phone. What it contains is my definition of delivering them on a silver platter, a short video of the main guy with Nancy the day that was probably her last, pictures of both involved, names and addresses and age.' The sender is demanding one bitcoin in return for the location of the phone and its password.
Previous Ransom Notes
Earlier ransom notes demanded $4 million in Bitcoin, later increasing to $6 million. Another note offered an 'apology' for Nancy's death and claimed her body could be delivered for $4 million, but that note has also not been authenticated. TMZ has sent the latest email to the FBI and responded with a video demanding one screenshot of Nancy as proof.
Savannah Guthrie's Emotional Plea
While discussing the case live on the Today show, Savannah Guthrie broke down in tears and begged viewers for help. 'I wanted to just take the opportunity to ask people, really to beg people, to come forward. Somebody knows something,' she said. Nancy was taken from her home months ago, with doorbell camera footage showing a gloved and masked man approaching the house at 1:47 a.m. on February 1. The camera was then disconnected, leaving the rest of the morning a mystery.
TMZ had previously offered to pay the single bitcoin in an attempt to verify the legitimacy of the notes. The case remains under investigation by the FBI.
