Conor McGregor sexual assault lawsuit dropped after NBA game allegations
McGregor sexual assault lawsuit thrown out

A civil lawsuit accusing former UFC champion Conor McGregor of sexual assault has been formally dropped, bringing a legal saga that began over two years ago to a close.

Lawsuit Allegations and Swift Dismissal

The case was filed by an unnamed woman, a 49-year-old Wall Street executive who sued under the pseudonym 'Jane Doe'. Her legal claim alleged that McGregor, 37, assaulted her in the men's toilets at Miami's Kaseya Center following an NBA finals game in June 2023.

The lawsuit stated that the incident occurred after the pair met at the venue's Courtside Club. It alleged McGregor 'intentionally engaged in unlawful sexual contact' and initially sought damages in excess of $75,000.

However, on Tuesday, the woman's legal team filed a notice of voluntary dismissal at a Florida court. This action means no further litigation on this matter can be brought forward against the Irish fighter.

McGregor's Defence and Career Context

McGregor, a former featherweight and lightweight UFC champion, has vehemently denied the allegations from the outset. His lawyer, Barbara Llanes, characterised the suit as 'false' and 'no more than a shakedown'.

Llanes confirmed the lawsuit was initiated after she refused to pay the woman's financial demand. The alleged assault was said to have taken place after a Miami Heat versus Denver Nuggets NBA finals game, which McGregor attended as part of a sponsorship deal for a pain relief spray.

This legal resolution comes amid a period of sporting inactivity for McGregor. He has not fought in the octagon since suffering a devastating leg break in July 2021 during his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier. His most recent victory was against Donald Cerrone in January 2020.

Fighting Future and Current Suspension

McGregor's fighting career is currently on hold due to an 18-month suspension handed down last month for missing three drug tests within a year. The ban commenced in September 2024, making him eligible to return to competition by March of next year.

This timeline could allow him to participate in a proposed bout at the White House next year, intended to mark the 250th anniversary of America's founding. Across his storied MMA career, McGregor's professional record stands at 22 wins and 6 losses.
