Man Arrested for Attempted Murder After Car Hits Pedestrians in Ealing

A 34-year-old Somalia-born British man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car struck multiple pedestrians outside an M&S in Ealing Broadway, West London, on Saturday afternoon. Five people were injured, with three taken to hospital and two treated at the scene. The incident occurred just before 2:30 PM, prompting a major emergency response including police, paramedics, and an air ambulance.

Arrest and Investigation

The driver failed to stop at the scene but was apprehended shortly after in nearby Grange Park. He remains in police custody on suspicion of dangerous driving and attempted murder. Police initially treated the incident as a hit-and-run but have confirmed it is not being investigated as terrorism, although Counter Terrorism Policing was contacted as a precaution.

Detectives are keeping an open mind regarding motive, but the Metropolitan Police stated that all victims suffered non-life-threatening or life-changing injuries. One victim was taken to a major trauma centre by road as a priority.

Witness Account

Witness Matt Darczynski told The Sun he heard screaming and called police immediately at 2:29 PM. He described the experience as horrific, noting that the collision did not appear accidental. He said: “It all just feels really weird, it was very chaotic. When I heard all the screaming I couldn’t help but feel stressed. Some people tried to help by chasing the man as he escaped from his car, while others filmed the situation on their phones.”

Emergency Response and Road Closures

London Ambulance Service dispatched multiple resources, including an air ambulance. The fire and rescue service also attended. Road closures remain in place in the Ealing Broadway area as police conduct their investigation. A Met Police spokesperson urged anyone with information or footage to contact police on 101, quoting reference 4607/27JUN.
