Eugeniu Neamtu, 59, has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 27 years for murdering a man in the UK, three years after serving time in Romania for a strikingly similar killing.
Neamtu, known as Jimmy, was convicted of murder in Romania in 2007 after stabbing his housemate in the chest during a drunken row over money. He was released from prison in 2023 and moved to Walthamstow, east London.
Near-identical killing in east London
On February 20, Neamtu killed fellow Romanian Gheorghe Trica, 63, in almost identical circumstances to his earlier crime. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the conviction and sentence.
Detectives described the two murders as strikingly similar, both involving a fatal stabbing following a dispute over money.
Sentence and next steps
The court handed Neamtu a life sentence with a minimum term of 27 years. He will remain in prison for at least that period before being considered for release.
