Belfast Man in Court Over Attempted Murder Charge

Hadi Alodid, 30, of Duncairn Avenue in Belfast, appeared before the city's magistrates' court via videolink on Wednesday, charged with the attempted murder of Stephen Ogilvie and other serious offences. The court was told the case is being transferred to the Crown Court.

Details of the Incident

Stephen Ogilvie suffered the loss of his left eye and severe lacerations to his head, face, and back, the court previously heard. The incident sparked significant unrest across multiple locations in Northern Ireland.

Additional charges against Alodid include threatening to kill an NHS radiographer and possession of a knife. The PSNI revealed earlier this week that Alodid may originate from Chad, rather than Sudan as initially thought.

Court Proceedings

During Wednesday's hearing, the court was informed that requests had been submitted for outstanding evidence, including witness statements and medical records. A four-week adjournment to await these materials was approved.

The magistrate advised Alodid, who required an Arabic interpreter, that he faces grave accusations and ought to contemplate obtaining legal representation. He was informed his case is proceeding to the Crown Court, with hopes that a date for this transfer would be confirmed within four weeks.

Remand and Next Steps

When asked through the interpreter whether he wished to respond, the accused shook his head. Alodid remains remanded in custody until August 5.
