Martin Grimason, a 35-year-old sex offender from Airdrie, has been remanded in custody after admitting to downloading child abuse material while subject to two bail orders. The offences occurred between February 2023 and June last year.
Guilty Plea at Airdrie Sheriff Court
Grimason, of Kippen Street, appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court this week where he pleaded guilty to the charge. Sheriff Derek Livingston ordered him to be remanded in custody pending background reports and a risk assessment. He will be sentenced next month.
Previous Convictions
Last year, Grimason was jailed for 12 months on a similar charge. He subsequently received an additional three months after admitting to breaching the requirements of the sex offenders' register. The court heard that Grimason failed to keep police informed about his online activity, as required. During an unannounced visit to his home, officers discovered Facebook and X accounts that he had not disclosed.
Impact and Next Steps
The case highlights ongoing concerns about monitoring sex offenders in the community. Grimason's repeated offences underscore challenges in ensuring compliance with court orders. He remains in custody while authorities prepare sentencing reports.
