North London Fire: 80 Firefighters Battle Wood Green Blaze

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched 12 fire engines and approximately 80 firefighters to a blaze on High Road in Wood Green, close to Turnpike Lane tube station. The fire engulfed two adjoining mixed-use buildings, the LFB confirmed in a statement.

Fire Contained After Hours of Effort

The LFB received the first of 25 calls reporting the fire at 21:25 on Monday, July 6. The blaze was brought under control by around midnight. Crews from Hornsey, Tottenham, Southgate, Holloway and neighbouring fire stations attended the scene.

"The fire is now under control but firefighters will remain on scene through the night working to fully extinguish the fire," the LFB said in a statement.

Residents Evacuated and Hospitalised

Fifteen residents were safely evacuated from the affected properties. Two individuals were transported to hospital by the London Ambulance Service for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Road Closures and Public Advisory

Road closures remain in force on High Road near the junction with Turnpike Lane. The LFB has urged members of the public to steer clear of the area and to anticipate some disruption to traffic.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage.
