Unlocked: A Jail Experiment Season 2 Cast Revealed
Meet the Cast of Unlocked: A Jail Experiment Season 2

Netflix has released the highly anticipated second season of its gripping true crime documentary series, Unlocked: A Jail Experiment. The show, which has quickly captured the public's imagination, returns to document a bold social project within the walls of an American correctional facility.

The Sheriff's Radical Six-Week Project

At the heart of the new season is Pinal County Sheriff Ross Teeple. Taking over from his predecessor, Sheriff Mark Lamb, Teeple inherited an agreement to allow documentary crews into his jail. What followed was a six-week experiment that granted a select group of inmates unprecedented autonomy, allowing them to self-govern and move freely without constant direct supervision.

Teeple, who began his career in the Navy before moving into law enforcement, drew on his years of corrections experience to design the initiative. He has stated the experiment was a "resounding success," aimed at sparking a national conversation on prison operations. However, he confessed to moments of acute risk, admitting there were times he thought, "I think we're going to have to shut this thing down." His ultimate hope is that the lessons learned will make the jail safer for both staff and inmates.

Meet the Inmates Transforming Their Lives

The unscripted series tracks the genuine interactions and personal journeys of several incarcerated men. While Pulaski County Sheriff Eric Higgins, who pioneered the original concept, notes that facilities are never completely without staff, the programme offers a raw look at rehabilitation.

Ronald 'AO' Dunmire, frequently placed in solitary confinement for disrespecting officers, used the experiment as a catalyst for change. Now serving time at the Arizona State Prison Complex, he works as a groundskeeper and has enrolled in self-improvement classes to control his anger, motivated by a desire to reunite with his four children.

Elwood 'Woody' Murphy Jr, a 40-year-old former family man, saw his life derailed by drug abuse. Currently at the Lewis Corrections Department, he has achieved sobriety, reconnected with his daughters, and works various prison jobs while serving a nine-year sentence.

Ronald 'Irish' Stricklett, a man in his 60s whose life has long been marred by legal issues, is serving time at the Lewis Corrections Department until November 2026. He has engaged with work assignments like the New Beginnings Through Peers programme, embracing a fresh perspective on life.

Overcoming Addiction and Personal Tragedy

Shane 'Hondo' Tipton shared his profound struggle with addiction, a battle that began at age 11. Achieving sobriety while at the Pinal County Detention Center, he was moved to a specialised rehab programme after presenting his case to a judge. He now participates in a scheme teaching essential life skills.

Another inmate, known as KJ, is serving a nine-year term at ASPC Yuma. He openly discusses the personal tragedies that led him astray and is determined to use his time productively. He speaks of building a responsible "community" within prison, likening it to a university fraternity where he takes accountability for himself and others.

Unlocked: A Jail Experiment season 2 is available to stream on Netflix now, offering a compelling and controversial look at the potential for change within the penal system.
