Evil double child killer Ian Huntley is reportedly fighting for his life after a brutal attack inside HMP Frankland left him lying in a pool of his own blood. The Soham murderer, aged 52, was discovered in his prison cell at approximately 9am this morning following the alleged assault at the notorious Category A facility in County Durham.
Metal Bar Attack in Prison Workshop
Sources indicate that Huntley was targeted with a metal bar in the prison's workshop, leading to serious injuries. A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary confirmed that police were alerted to the assault, with the male prisoner transported to hospital and a full investigation now underway into the circumstances.
Former Inmate's Chilling Account
Meanwhile, former inmate Ricky Killeen has shared exclusive insights into the extreme brutality he witnessed during his time at HMP Frankland. Killeen, who arrived at the prison when he was just 21 years old, described his first impression as seeing "WELCOME TO HELL" inscribed inside the holding cell in reception.
He told how other transferred inmates were terrified due to rumours about the jail's notorious reputation. Killeen, now a reformed criminal who shares experiences on his Behind the Bars TV YouTube page and helps former inmates rebuild their lives, provided horrifying details of violence he observed.
Graphic Violence and Disturbing Incidents
"I witnessed loads of violence in there," Killeen revealed. "The first day I was there I saw a terrorist get hot oil tipped over his head and seen his head melting. I saw numerous lads get stabbed in the neck and one got a coffee jar full of chilli powder rammed in his neck."
He added that while there were mini riots during his incarceration, the hot oil incident was the worst he witnessed. Killeen stayed on the main wing but noted that the Vulnerable Prisoner (VP) wing, which houses paedophiles and notorious killers, often experienced the most severe violence.
Notorious Inmates and 'Monster Mansion' Reputation
The former prisoner, who was originally held for his role in a machete attack, explained that Frankland has become known as "Monster Mansion" in local press because it holds some of the country's most dangerous criminals. While Wakefield Prison was originally dubbed with this nickname, Frankland now houses infamous figures including:
- Levi Bellfield
- Ian Huntley
- Wayne Couzens
- Lee Rigby's killer Michael Adebolajo
- Rhys Jones' killer Sean Mercer
Killeen noted that the prison has previously housed other notorious criminals like Peter Sutcliffe, Fred West, and Harold Shipman. With approximately 800 inmates, many of whom will never be released, Frankland maintains its reputation as one of Britain's most dangerous prisons.
Disturbing Stories from the VP Wing
The former inmate claimed that particularly grim stories circulated about violence on the VP wing, with one paedophile reportedly "disemboweled" according to accounts relayed back to inmates via prison officers. These revelations come as Huntley, who murdered 10-year-old girls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in 2002, receives medical treatment following today's attack.
Killeen's transformation from inmate to reform advocate highlights the challenging environment within Britain's high-security prison system, where extreme violence remains an ongoing concern despite rehabilitation efforts for some former criminals.
