A prisoner has been found guilty of murdering 'Britain's worst paedophile' in a planned attack at HMP Full Sutton, East Yorkshire. Paul Fitzgerald, 30, killed Richard Huckle in October 2019 by tying him up, assaulting him with a blunt instrument, and strangling him with electrical cable.
Prosecutor Alistair MacDonald QC told Hull Crown Court that the attack was designed to 'humiliate and degrade' Huckle, 33, who was serving 22 life sentences for abusing up to 200 children in Malaysia. Fitzgerald described Huckle as 'Britain's worst paedophile' and said he wanted him to feel what his victims had felt.
Fitzgerald told prison staff he 'enjoyed' the attack and would have gone on to kill other inmates. The court heard that the attack was 'carefully planned and executed'. Fitzgerald had denied murder, claiming his medical conditions, including mixed personality disorder, psychopathy, and gender identity disorder, impaired his self-control.
Huckle, from Ashford, Kent, was given 22 life sentences in 2016 for 71 charges of sex abuse against children aged between six months and 12 years. Fitzgerald is due to be sentenced at Hull Crown Court on Tuesday.
