A woman has died following a three-vehicle crash on the A1 near Felton in Northumberland. Emergency services were called to the scene after three cars collided at 12.15pm on Sunday.
A white Nissan Qashqai, reportedly travelling northbound, collided with a red Renault Clio and a white Tesla Model Three, both travelling southbound. Police have said the reasons for the crash are yet to be established.
Victim and Injuries
The female driver of the Clio was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
The male driver of the Qashqai sustained minor injuries, while a passenger suffered serious injuries. Both were taken to hospital for treatment and were later discharged. Four occupants of the Tesla sustained injuries not believed to be serious.
Road Closure and Investigation
A section of the A1 between Morpeth and Alnwick was closed in both directions for around nine hours while police investigated the collision. The road has since reopened.
Officers from Northumbria Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. The force is appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the moments leading up to the crash.
Sergeant Greg Huntley said: "Our thoughts are firmly with the family and loved ones of the woman who has sadly died in this tragic collision. We will continue to offer them all the support they need and would ask that their privacy is respected at this time. We are now appealing for further information and for anyone with dashcam footage of the vehicles involved to come forward."
"If you were travelling in either direction on the A1 around the time of this collision, any information you are able to provide could prove crucial to our enquiries," he added.
