Woman dies after police called to Rochdale Tesco

Emergency services were called to a Tesco store in Rochdale on Saturday afternoon after a report of a concern for welfare for a woman inside the building. The woman, who was in her 50s, later died, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed.

The incident took place at the supermarket's branch on Silk Street, off Manchester Road on the outskirts of the town centre, on Saturday, November 7. Police received a report of a concern for welfare for a woman inside the store, a GMP spokesperson said.

Shoppers evacuated from store and car park

Shoppers described the woman being treated first by staff and then by paramedics when they arrived. Others said they were told to leave the store and vacate the car park to allow the emergency services to deal with the incident.

It is understood staff and managers at the store were supporting the emergency services while the incident unfolded. Footage posted on social media showed the air ambulance landing on the supermarket's car park.

Woman confirmed dead

Sadly, the woman could not be saved and died, the GMP spokesperson confirmed on Sunday afternoon. Her next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for Tesco declined to comment about the incident when approached by the Manchester Evening News on Saturday.
