Aberdeen manager Stephen Robinson is facing mounting pressure after a 4-0 defeat to Hibernian at Pittodrie, with pundit Chris Sutton urging him to walk away from the job. The result left Aberdeen 11th in the Scottish Premiership, just two points above bottom-placed Kilmarnock.
Supporters turned on Robinson during the match, chanting “You are getting sacked in the morning” and “Robinson, get to f***!” after the heavy loss. Despite the backlash, the Irishman insisted he is ready to fight on.
Pundits Split on Robinson's Future
Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton believes Robinson should consider doing the "honourable thing" and leaving the role. Speaking to Sky Sports, Sutton said: "At the start of the season it was all about ‘it’s my team’, it’s a case where it feels the club is too big for him, the job is too big for him. Maybe he should do the honourable thing and walk away, but it’ll probably end in the sack."
Former Rangers forward Kris Boyd, however, doubts Robinson will step aside voluntarily. Boyd said: "He’s never going to walk away, he signed a contract. Nobody in their right mind is going to walk away, absolutely not."
Fans Losing Patience
Boyd acknowledged that Aberdeen supporters have reached their breaking point with the manager. He pointed to Robinson's previous work at St Mirren and his role in keeping Aberdeen in the league last season, but suggested the situation has become untenable.
"You can’t knock what he did at St Mirren, if you give him time – he’s not going to get time at Aberdeen, the fans have had enough. It’s over for Stephen Robinson and it’s probably what he’s looking for...if you listen to his interviews, it’s a case of he’d rather be anywhere else but Aberdeen, I don’t blame him. I would be very surprised if he’s in charge of Aberdeen when we come back from the international break," Boyd said.
